Women are claiming that this has happened to them—are they for real? As everyone who sat through a basic sex ed class knows, having unprotected sex comes with a risk of getting pregnant. That's why it's almost impossible to believe that a woman can get pregnant without having penetrative sex. Sammi Isabel shared her story in a TikTok video that quickly went viral. In the video, Isabel said she started feeling crampy at her prom and realized her period was a week late. Though she was a virgin at the time, she took a pregnancy test—and it was positive. Isabel is hardly the first woman to say this happened to her.
Can you get pregnant without penetration?
Pregnancy without penetration is possible, but it is very difficult for it to happen because the amount of sperm that comes into contact with the vaginal canal is very small, which makes it difficult to fertilize the egg. Sperm cells can only survive outside the body for a few minutes, however, the hotter and wetter the environment, the longer they can become viable. In order for you to have a chance of getting pregnant without penetration, you must not be using any contraceptive method and ensure that ejaculation takes place near the vagina, so that there is a minimum chance that the sperm will enter the vaginal canal and that there is a sufficient quantity of viable sperm cells to fertilize the egg.
